For the first time since I started my blog 5 years ago, I took a month off from posting. I didn’t stop painting, I didn’t stop filling lisahuntart orders, I didn’t stop playing piano and I certainly didn’t stop being mom, family woman and friend. But I did have to prioritize and make sure that what I did have time for I did it well…

Believe it or not, I studied Computer Animation in the 1990s. Back then, it was an adventurous pursuit for the few brave who dared to make it their major in Art School. I was already trained in traditional art, but was fascinated by the prospects of bringing art to animated life.

It’s catch up time! I’ve been taking things a little more slowly this month, with the kids going back to school, the specter of hurricanes, replenishing art supplies and catching up with paperwork. I also returned to the taekwondo dojo to get my physical mojo back in between practicing the piano…

The other day I accidently stumbled on a bird nest with two eggs inside. I felt terrible that I had inadvertenly disturbed what I feel is sacred territory, but much to my delight a third egg appeared the next day with attendent mama grackle watching nearby…

I love the piano. To me, the keys are allegorical. They are emotive, mysterious, scary and can be a girl’s best friend. They can feel hard and cold, slippery and wet, warm and soft–all depending on what is being played and how it’s being played.

2011 is turning into the year of the unexpected. Instead of fearing the chaos of what seems like truncated routines, I’m learning how to accept the unexpected and to be flexible. Part of this has entailed taking on projects and creating images that I never thought I’d do: new subject matter, new methods, bold creative assertions and a sense of the spontaneous along the way.
