The waxwing bird reminds me of Mardi Gras, Key West, masked crusaders and Jazz music. Yes, Jazz music. There is something downright funky about this bird with its unique visage and scrumptious coloring. While deep in painting trance, it was easy for me to ‘become the animal’ and to feel the energies of its illusionary mastery. The piece perfectly combined action and inertia—with the figure’s ostensible calm masking the immense energy circulating about.
